The Ron Euling Award for Writing 2010

The purpose of the award is to encourage quality writing by bringing attention to the published work of an author who might not otherwise be recognized.

Ron Euling was a highly regarded media administrator and a generous contributor to such organizations as FM 98.5  The Pulse Of The Valleys community radio and the Goulburn Valley Writers Group Inc.

Ron passed away in September 1998. The award commemorates Ron’s lifelong contribution to the community as a radio and television presenter.

There are four criteria for the award:

  • The award is for writing published in the current year whether in a book, magazine, newspaper,   newsletter or any other format.
  • Nominations must be for a substantial body of published writing such as a collection of poems or stories, a history, a series of articles and so forth. It is not for a single poem, short story or article.
  • It is for writing published in the Goulburn Valley broadly interpreted, or by an author resident in the Goulburn Valley at the time of publication.
  • Writing in the genre of prose, fiction, history, biography, autobiography, memoir or commentary is acceptable.

The closing date for nominations for The Ron Euling Award for Writing 2010is Friday, 19th November 2010.

Alan Mathew’s ‘Blackbird Singing’ won the 2006 Ron Euling Ward.  This book is a delightful compilation of prose and poetry from one of Shepparton’s finest authors.

The 2005 Ron Euling Award winner was Fiona Olsen, of Tatura, for her delightful Ekidna series of books for small children. Runner up was John Holder, of Shepparton, for his series of newsletters and articles published regularly in the local media.
